Special Issue on Intelligent and Safe Mining and High-Quality Development of Deep Mines

Published 15 October, 2026

Introduction

Global shallow high-grade mineral resources are facing imminent depletion, making the extension of mining activities into the Earth's deep crust inevitable. However, constrained by the complex occurrence environment of deep high geo-stress, high rock temperature, high osmotic pressure, and strong mining disturbances, traditional mining models face challenges such as low rock-breaking efficiency, insufficient continuous operation, lagging disaster prevention and control, extensive operation and maintenance management, and inadequate resource utilization.

To address these challenges, there is a need to innovate systems encompassing theories, experiments, simulations, technologies, equipment, and construction methods. Based on the “Resilience-Intelligence-Green-Humanity Traits” (RIGHT) model, this Special Issue invites the latest research findings in deep mining worldwide. It aims to address bottlenecks spanning rock breaking, mineral extraction, disaster prevention, operation and maintenance, and resource utilization.

Topics covered

  • Mechanisms, Technologies, and Equipment for Low-Damage, High-Efficiency, and Micro-Disturbance Rock Breaking in Complex Deep Environments: From TBM Mechanical Excavation to TBM-V Non-Contact Rock Breaking;
